City Airlines was founded in Munich in the summer of 2022. It is a German regional airline and a subsidiary of Lufthansa Group. The airline aims to offer guests on short- and medium-haul routes an exceptional flight experience in proven Lufthansa quality. As a new airline, City Airlines combines the quality of Lufthansa and the experience of Lufthansa CityLine with the dynamism of a new young company. The airline received its air operator's certificate in June 2023.
City Airlines launched operations in the summer of 2024. In doing so, City Airlines expanded the European route network in the Lufthansa Group and brought the passengers to their destinations in a modern and economical Airbus fleet.
As of May 2025, the fleet consists of 4 Airbus A319-100 and 4 Airbus A320neo. The aircraft have already been painted in the new Lufthansa City livery. Behind the company is a highly professional team in the cockpit and cabin, which is characterised as much by training by Lufthansa standards as by its great diversity. In the administrative and technical areas, the airlines' team works in close coordination with Lufthansa CityLine and Lufthansa Group.
City Airlines offers 2 travel classes: Economy and Business.
Economy Class: Passengers can enjoy a comfortable journey in Economy Class, where seats on short and medium-haul routes offer additional legroom, allowing travellers to stretch their legs with ease. The company provides a range of Economy Class fare options: Light, Classic, Flex, or the new, more sustainable Green, enabling passengers to select the fare that best aligns with their travel preferences and needs. Passengers can customise their experience by choosing the services and amenities that suit them.
Business Class: Passengers can experience a relaxing journey in Business Class, where the middle seat remains unoccupied, providing ample space for undisturbed work or relaxation in a comfortable environment.
On all European flights, passengers benefit from the comprehensive services and comfort of City Airlines’ Business Class. The adjacent seat is kept free, and passengers enjoy numerous Business Class privileges, including lounge access and an allowance of two pieces of free baggage.
On selected routes, passengers can choose between the fully flexible Business Flex fare and the limited Business Saver fare. Additionally, the Business Green fare enables more sustainable travel. With this fare, the use of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) reduces flight-related CO2 emissions by 20% of the individual flight-related emissions, while the remaining 80% of flight-related CO2 emissions are offset through contributions to high-quality climate protection projects.
City Airlines takes passengers to their destination reliably and fast. The company offers convenient non-stop connections from the Munich and Frankfurt hub systems in proven Lufthansa quality.
Lufthansa City Airlines operates within a route network to six domestic and two European destinations.
Passengers on board Lufthansa City Airlines can expect the Lufthansa product offering and customer experience for short and medium-haul routes.
