SpiceJet is an Indian low-cost airline, connecting the remotest corners of the country, based in Gurgaon. It is one of the largest airlines in India that connects 73 destinations, including 60 Indian and 13 international destinations from its bases at Delhi and Hyderabad. The airline has single-handedly changed the air travel industry in India, and there is no stopping it.
SpiceJet's fleet is an apt mix of large, medium and small metal birds that includes Boeing 737 Max, Boeing 700 and Q400S that allow for greater efficiency in maintenance and support its low-cost structure. The next-generation aircraft delivers enhanced fuel efficiency, reduced emissions, and also offers increased passenger comfort.
The airline's pursuit of making flying affordable and comfortable for Indians has only deepened over the years, and the intentions are clear in its actions.
SpiceJet has recently added to its fleet the B737-MAX 8 aircraft, which are newly designed, state-of-the-art aircraft with new fuel-efficient engines (CFM LEAP 1B).
The new-generation Boeing 737-700s, 737-800s and 737-900ERs with winglets have been a conscious choice. These aircraft allow for safe, comfortable and efficient flying and are ideally suited for short to medium-haul flights typical of Indian conditions. Q400S, designed for short-haul routes, are known for their superlative fuel efficiency and comfort. These aircraft are the most technologically advanced turboprop airliners and are the next step in the continuing evolution of Indian aviation.
British airline rating agency Skytrax has certified SpiceJet as a 3-Star Low-Cost Airline, recognising the quality of its airport and onboard product, as well as its staff service.
In their guide on skytraxratings.com, Skytrax provided the following insights: SpiceJet operates a network of domestic and short-haul international routes. While many fares include baggage, passengers can purchase items like pre-booked seats, catering, and priority check-in and boarding. Skytrax observed that staff service can be inconsistent, with efficiency and friendliness varying. Seat comfort is noted as quite limited at 29 inches, and the buy-on-board food and beverage offerings are at an adequate level.
