The term "azulejo" has Arabic roots, meaning "small polished stone". The art of creating azulejos began on the Iberian Peninsula with the Arabs, who brought their mosaic techniques to decorate the walls of their palaces with intricate geometric patterns, symbolizing opulence. Blue and white azulejo tiles are a Portuguese classic. These glazed blue ceramic tiles from the 14th century decorate the streets, buildings, and monuments of Portuguese cities. Portuguese tiles are much more than a decorative motif. Tiles, or as called in Portuguese, ‘Azulejos’, originated from traditional and ancient art that has been made popular in Portugal. In short, it involves a specific way of hand-painting tin-glazed ceramic tile work in the most varied hues. We are thrilled to let you know all about this famous Portuguese wonder. Our distinctive Workshop is an immersive journey into the heart of Portuguese heritage. Experience the classic tile technique on fired glass in a concept store of Portuguese brands and artisans of handmade goods. It is a unique and cozy space, where one can have a coffee or drink a port wine and enjoy the Portuguese art.
