Central Mountain Air

Since 1987, Central Mountain Air (CMA) has soared as a proudly western Canadian, privately owned airline. Headquartered at Smithers Airport, CMA connects communities from key hubs at Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, and Prince George International Airports, delivering reliable service with a personal touch.

CMA’s scheduled and charter flights create a unique network, linking the stunning landscapes and bustling towns of British Columbia and Alberta. With a versatile fleet of Beechcraft 1900Ds, Dornier 328s, and De Havilland Dash 8 aircraft, CMA ensures every journey is smooth and memorable.

As of May 2025, the Central Mountain Air fleet includes the following aircraft: 4 De Havilland Canada DHC-8-100, 6 De Havilland Canada DHC-8-3000, 1 De Havilland Canada DHC-8-400 and 3 Dornier 328-100.

In total, CMA currently serves 16 communities: Campbell River, Dawson Creek, Fort Nelson, Kelowna, Prince George, Quesnel, Smithers, Fort Nelson, Fort St. John, Terrace, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton and Lloydminster.

Economy Class is the only cabin class offered by the airline and gives a relaxed but no-frills service. The service will slightly depend on what aircraft you are flying in. For example, in the Beech 1900D, passengers will be seated in a 1-1 formation, providing executive seating on comfortable seats that are well spaced out. On the Dornier 328, the seats are arranged in a 1-2 formation, giving some passengers a lot more room and legroom than others. And, finally, on the DASH 8-100 which holds the most amount of passengers, seats are arranged in a 2-2 formation.

Passangers may carry onboard items which fall within the 2 piece carry-on/sky check allowance: 1 carry-on bag or suitcase (wheels and handles included in the size) and 1 personal article like a briefcase, laptop computer, diaper bag, camera case, carton or other similar item. Both items must not be more than 10kg.

A Checked Bag is defined as a single item with a maximum weight of 23kg and with a maximum linear dimension of 158 cm. Linear dimensions are calculated by adding together the bag’s greatest outside height, width and length – wheels and handles included.
