Jet Airways

Jet Airways (India) Ltd is an Indian international airline currently based in Delhi NCR with a training and development center in Mumbai. It was one of the largest airlines in India, with a 21.2% passenger market share in February 2016. It operated over 300 flights daily to 74 destinations worldwide from its erstwhile main hub at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport and secondary hubs at Chennai International Airport, Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi, Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru, and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, Kolkata.

Incorporated in April 1992 as a limited liability company, the airline began operations as an air taxi operator with a fleet of four leased Boeing 737 aircraft in 1993. It began full-fledged operations in 1995 with international flights added in 2004.

In 2006, Jet Airways has signed a special code sharing (SPA) agreement with American Airlines, the world's largest carrier, for India-US flights. In the same year Jet Airways signs contract with CAE for Boeing 777 & Airbus A330 simulators.

The airline went public in 2007 when it acquired Air Sahara. Jet Airways India Ltd has signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Lufthansa Technik AG for A330/B777 Component Works, Personnel Assignment Services and Maintenance Management Services then inks $238mn aircraft lease agreement.

In the sam yeear, Jet Airways India Ltd announces the introduction of its first flight from Chennai to Toronto, via its hub in Brussels, signs MoU with Lufthansa Technik AG and wins "Most Innovative Product Launch" Award for its 'First Class' Suites onboard its Boeing 777-300ER.

With its competitors, mainly SpiceJet and IndiGo, lowering ticket fares in the following years, it was forced to follow suit, hurting overall performance resulting in steep financial losses. It dropped to second place behind IndiGo in October 2017, with a passenger market share of 17.8%. The downward slide continued and resulted in bankruptcy in 2019. Before the founding of Vistara, it was the only other full-service airline of India apart from Air India. It ceased operations in April 2019, but is slated to restart operations in by the starting of 2022.

Jet Airways will resume operations in the first quarter of 2022 and have over 100 aircraft in five years.

The airline will be headquartered in Delhi and operate its first flight on the Delhi-Mumbai route.

The airline’s training centre will continue to function out of Mumbai. Pilots and cabin crew would have to undergo refresher training upon joining the airline. In the case of pilots, this includes ground classes and simulator training.

The airline is in discussion with both Airbus and Boeing and is initially looking to induct around 20 aircraft, according to industry sources.
