Sun Country Airlines is an American low-cost airline that deploys shared resources across its scheduled service, charter and cargo businesses. It focuses on serving leisure and visiting friends and relatives (VFR) passengers and charter customers and providing crew, maintenance and insurance (CMI) services.
Currently, Sun Country Airlines is the US's 11th-largest airline by passengers carried, but it's better known for its pandemic success and diversified business model.

Sun Country Airlines came into being in June 1982, devoting Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport is its home base. The airline first took to the skies in January 1983 using a Boeing 727-200. Founded by former Braniff Airlines employees whose own airline had shuttered that same year, Sun Country swiftly carved out a niche in the leisure travel market.

Today, Sun Country Airlines flies to 140 destinations and operates over 100 routes throughout the Caribbean, the United States, Canada, Mexico and Central America. Many Sun Country destinations are seasonally served as demand grows and falls yearly. The airline additionally provides charter service for the United States Armed Forces and NCAA football teams.

Sun Country has code-share agreements with China Airlines, Condor, EVA Air, Hawaiian Airlines, and Icelandair.

As of April 2025, Sun Country Airlines' fleet consists of 59 Boeing 737 Next-Generation aircraft. The airline plans to add ten new aircraft to its fleet.

Sun Country now offers three variations of economy seats: Best, Better, and Standard.

Sun Country operates as an ultra-low-cost carrier (ULCC) but distinguishes itself with thoughtful perks. It provides passengers with complimentary soft drinks, USB charging, and streaming in-flight entertainment (IFE) on most of its aircraft. The airline offers legroom of 29-30 inches for standard seats, while its premium ‘Best’ seats extend to a more generous 34 inches. Its buy-on-board snack menu, though limited in variety, remains fairly priced and offers reasonable value. In contrast, its alcohol selection stands out, featuring a wider range with some unique and intriguing options. The staff’s service often impresses, delivering above-average attentiveness, though it occasionally lacks consistency.

Today, the airline has established itself as a leisure carrier and cargo operator for Amazon. The Amazon partnership allowed Sun Country to supplement seasonal leisure revenue and made its 2021 IPO possible at a time when airline stocks were still struggling.
On June 20, 2024, Sun Country and Amazon Air announced an extension to their contract out to 2030. Under this new contract, Amazon Air will transfer an additional 8 737-800BCF aircraft to Sun Country, increasing the airline's cargo fleet to 20 airframes.

Sun Country Airlines is certified as a 3-Star Low-Cost Airline by Skytrax for the quality of its airport and onboard product and staff service. Product rating includes cabin comfort, baggage/seat charges, buy onboard food & beverages, cabin cleanliness, and service rating for cabin and ground staff.
