Virgin Atlantic

Virgin Atlantic start flying in 1984 giving people a choice. A bright red, fun, friendly, fabulous choice that made travel attainable for everyone. 

Richard Branson, Virgin Atlantic's enthusiastic chairman, did anything to get attention for his businesses, including hot air ballooning, abseiling down Manhattan high rises or kissing Spice Girls. 

As of August 2021, under the slogan "No ordinary airline" Virgin Atlantic operates a network of 45 destinations in 27 countries. It flies to 13 destinations in the USA.

Virgin Atlantic uses a mixed fleet of Airbus and Boeing wide-body aircraft and operates to destinations in North America, the Caribbean, Africa, the Middle East and Asia from its main base at Heathrow, and its secondary base at Manchester. The airline also operates seasonal flights from Belfast, Edinburgh and Glasgow. 

On 5 May 2020, it was announced that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the airline would reduce the fleet size to 35 by the summer of 2022, retire the Boeing 747-400s and would not resume operations from Gatwick following the pandemic.

As of September 2021, Virgin Atlantic operates a fleet, currently comprising 36 (+ 19 on Order/Planned) aircraft. The fleet consists of 2 Airbus A330-200, 10 Airbus A330-300, 7 Airbus A350-1000, 17 Boeing 787-9.

Virgin Atlantic aircraft consist of three cabins: Economy, Premium and Upper Class (business).
 

•  Economy Class includes 23kg baggage allowance, plus hand luggage and free seat selection. If you'd rather speed through the airport using Premium check-in desks and priority boarding, Economy Delight offers all this, plus extra legroom on board. Of if you're happy to pack less, choose Economy Light - You'll still get everything you'd expect on a great flight, but at a price, you wouldn’t. All Economy services include delicious food, entertainment and irresistible personal service. 

• Premium Class: It's the little touches here and there that help you truly enjoy your time in the air. Those extra few inches of space,  a glass of bubbly as you board, and a tasty meal served on china crockery with proper cutlery. Just enough to give you a big lift before you get to your destination. In 2019, Virgin Atlantic's Premium Class awarded the Skytrax "World’s best Premium cabin". Serving up a restaurant experience in the sky. The meals are designed for flavor and served on china.

• Upper Class: Enjoy extra legroom, fully flatbed up to 6 foot 7 inches in bed mode, stretch out, even more, opt for the height of inflight luxury.

Virgin Atlantic has codeshare agreements with the following airlines: Aeroméxico, Air France, Air New Zealand, Delta Air Lines, Gol Transportes Aéreos, KLM, Middle East Airlines, Singapore Airlines, WestJet.

Virgin Atlantic filed for Chapter 15 Bankruptcy Protection in New York on 4 August 2020 as part of a £1.2 billion private refinancing package.
