Air India, the premier flight carrier of India is one of the most extensive flight service providers in India.  It is owned by Air India Limited, a government-owned enterprise. Air India flies to a total of 102 destinations including 57 domestic destinations and 45 international destinations in 31 countries across five continents around the world. Its primary hub is located at Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi, and it has a secondary hub at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai. Air India is the largest international carrier out of India with an 18.6% market share. The airline became the 27th member of Star Alliance on 11 July 2014.

The logo of Air India is a red-colored flying swan with the 'Konark Chakra' in orange, placed inside it. The flying swan has been morphed from Air India's characteristic logo, 'The Centaur', whereas the 'Konark Chakra' is reminiscent of Indian's logo.

Air India's slogans are "Unbeatable service", "Air India… Truly Indian", and "We raise our hands only to say Namaste".

As of October 2021, Air India operates a fleet, currently comprising 128 aircraft. Air India' fleet consists of 3 Boeing 777-200ER, 15 Boeing B777-300ER, 4 Boeing B747-400, 27 Boeing B787-800, 1 Airbus Classic A320, 4 Airbus A320-CEO, 5 Airbus A320-CEO (Single Configuration), 27 Airbus A320-NEO, 3 Airbus A319 (Single Configuration), 19 Airbus A319, 20 Airbus A321.

Air India offers Maharaja Lounges (Emperor's Lounge) for First and Business Classes passengers which are available not only at domestic airports but also at international airports sharing them with other international airlines. Available Maharaja Lounges are: 
 


Air India has codeshare agreements with the following airlines: Air Astana, Air Austral, Air Canada, Air India Express (Subsidiary), Air Seychelles, Avianca, Croatia Airlines, EgyptAir, Ethiopian Airlines, EVA Air, Fiji Airways, Hong Kong Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, Myanmar Airways International, Royal Brunei Airlines, Singapore Airlines, SriLankan Airlines, Swiss International Air Lines, TAP Air Portugal, Turkish Airlines.

Air India holds 3-Star Airline status from Skytrax: “Air India has mixed product standard across its aircraft, and in some areas, the product is quite worn with better cabin maintenance and cleanliness levels required. Business Class is below 4-Star requirements for both the airport and onboard experience. The ground staff service at Mumbai Airport is also a weak feature.”
