Aegean Airlines

Aegean Airlines is the flag carrier airline of Greece and the largest Greek airline by the total number of passengers carried, by number of destinations served and by fleet size. A Star Alliance member since June 2010, it operates scheduled and charter services from Athens and Thessaloniki to other major Greek destinations as well as to a number of European and Middle Eastern destinations. Its main hubs are Athens International Airport in Athens, Macedonia International Airport in Thessaloniki and Larnaca International Airport in Cyprus. It also uses other Greek airports as bases, some of which are seasonal. It has its head office in Kifisia, a suburb of Athens.

Aegean Airlines' commercial activity for 2021 comprises short and medium haul scheduled flights in Europe and the Middle East, covering a network of 100 domestic and international destinations in 44 countries. The flights perform with one of the youngest fleets in Europe. As of June 2021, Aegean Airlines operates an all-Airbus fleet, currently comprising 63 aircraft.

 In June 2018 the largest private investment in Greece valued at 5 billion USD, was announced for the order of up to 42 new generation aircraft of the A320neo family from Airbus.

Aegean fleet consists of 40 AIRBUS A320, 13 AIRBUS A321, 1 AIRBUS A319, 2 Dash 8-100, 8 Dash 8-Q400 and 2 ATR 42-600.  Every aircraft in AEGEAN’s fleet is equipped with the latest and most sophisticated safety systems, including TCAS (Traffic Collision Avoidance System) and TAWS (Terrain Awareness and Warning System). Also, in AEGEAN cares about the environment and makes constant upgrades in order to reduce noise, emissions, and fuel consumption.

On the 23rd of October 2013, Aegean Airlines acquired Olympic Air; as a result, passengers are now provided with increased flight frequencies and connections as well as improved accessibility to Greece’s islands, including some of the more remote. Both carriers continue to operate under separate brands. In addition, Aegean Airlines participated in the final stages of the tender for the privatization of Cyprus Airways, the national carrier of Cyprus. Following the bankruptcy of Cyprus Airways, Aegean Airlines established a hub at Larnaca Airport, thus initiating scheduled flights to and from the island to various destinations and filling the service gap created by the termination of the services of Cyprus Airways.

Aegean Airlines invests in strengthening its international presence and supporting Greek tourism both in Athens and regional airports.

Aegean Cargo provides different services based on customer demands. Aegean Airlines Cargo department was founded in 2001 in order to offer full services to customers. Today, the Aegean cargo department operates almost across the whole of the company’s network to 145 international as well as Greek destinations, offering airport-to-airport services for freight carriers, import/export companies, postal and courier firms and private individuals needing to transport items by freight.

Aegean Airlines got Skytrax 4-Star COVID-19 Airline Safety  Rating for the safety measures and improved health and hygiene processes introduced by Aegean Airlines during the coronavirus pandemic.

Also, Aegean Airlines holds 4-Star Airline status from Skytrax for the quality of its airport and onboard product and staff services
