Allegiant Air is a US low-cost airline that flies numerous domestic routes nationwide. It is a major airline, the fourteenth-largest commercial airline in North America and is well-known from state to state.
Allegiant was founded in 1997 by Mitch Allee (owner and CEO), Jim Patterson (president), and Captain Now. The airline is wholly owned by Allegiant Travel Company, which is headquartered in Summerlin, Nevada, a suburb of Las Vegas.
The airline has several hubs across the US and flies to more than 100 destinations overall. It mainly focuses on flying to leisure destinations. Some of Allegiant Air's top destinations include Orlando, Las Vegas, St. Petersburg, Phoenix, Los Angeles, Punta Gorda, Cincinnati, Myrtle Beach, Fort Lauderdale and Bellingham.
Today, Allegiant Air's fleet consists of 129 aeroplanes: 85 Airbus A320-200, 32 Airbus A319-100 and 8 Boeing 737 MAX 8, which provide scheduled and charter flights.
Allegiant Air provides an all-economy class cabin where passengers can purchase a specific seat at the time of reservation. Allegiant Air offers passengers leather seats, which have an extra pitch for a comfortable time onboard.
Passengers can bring along one small carry-on luggage, and checked baggage needs to be purchased as per individual requirements. Each checked-in baggage can weigh up to 18 kgs, and one passenger can purchase up to 4 checked-in bags.
Allegiant Air simplifies its fare classes and seat assignments: unless a specific seat is purchased, the airline will assign one to the passenger. Allegiant offers various options for enhanced seating comfort available for purchase on some of their select flights: Allegiant Extra and Legroom + seating options.
With Allegiant Extra, passengers receive an additional six inches of legroom space in the front of the plane at the bulkhead. Legroom+ includes both the exit rows and the front of the plane (again, only on select routes).
It's important to note that on some flights, the extra space seats are in the exit rows, which means passengers must be willing and able to operate emergency procedures if necessary. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has various mandated rules on who is allowed to sit in an exit row, and most airlines also have their own sets of rules. For example, no one under the age of 15 can sit in an exit row.
Bundling is a special offer that Allegiant presents to its flyers when booking. It's a smart way of combining their most popular services (usually associated with a fee) to save money. Allegiant offers three options when booking a bundle: Basic, Bonus, and Total.
Each bundle comes with its own set of extras, and all of the services are also available individually. Passengers can simply add the individual service they wish to purchase when booking their flight, but they should be careful as these cannot be added afterwards.
Here's a breakdown of each option: Basic only includes a personal item. Bonus includes a personal item plus a carry-on, as well as seat selection and some flexibility for ticket changes. Total comes with a personal item, a carry-on, and a checked bag. Passengers also get seat selection, priority access (to the ticket counter and during boarding), and more flexibility for ticket changes.
Being able to board early with just a carry-on, ensuring a spot in the overhead compartment, often makes bundling worthwhile for passengers.
On board, passengers will find food and beverages for sale on most Allegiant flights, though some very short routes might not always offer them. Their choices include snacks like chips, nuts, cookies, and chocolate. When it comes to non-alcoholic drinks, they offer the usual sodas, water, tea, and coffee, plus some interesting zero-proof cocktails like their grapefruit squeeze.
In terms of alcohol, passengers will find everything from spirits to wine and beer. They also offer fun signature cocktails.
Wi-Fi and in-flight entertainment are not available on Allegiant flights, so passengers should remember to download whatever they need onto their phone or tablet (and fully charge them) before boarding. The seats also do not recline, which is why some passengers prefer to fly with them for short-haul flights.
Allegiant Air is certified as a 3-Star Low-Cost Airline for the quality of its airport and onboard products and staff service.
On skytraxratings.com, Sktrax left the following review about Allegiant Air the following review: “A low-cost airline providing basic and reasonable service standards. Seat comfort is quite normal with a 30-inch seat pitch, plus a few extra legroom seat options. Buy onboard F&B choice is very limited. Cabin service is functional and efficient, but it is at the airport where many customers get caught/charged for not complying with strict baggage rules.”
