Jetstar Jetstar

Jetstar

Jetstar Airways is an Australian low-cost airline, headquartered in Melbourne. Its main base is located at Melbourne Airport (MEL). The airline operates an extensive domestic network, regional and some international services.

Jetstar is a wholly owned subsidiary of Qantas, created in response to the threat posed by airline Virgin Australia.

The airline uses a mixed fleet of the Airbus A320 family and the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Like its Qantas parent, Jetstar competes with Virgin Australia. As of May 2025, the Jetstar Airways fleet consists of the following aircraft: 49 Airbus A320-200, 3 Airbus A320neo, 6 Airbus A321-200, 20 Airbus A321neo and 11 Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner.

On all domestic routes, Jetstar has a buy-on-board single-class service offering food and drinks for purchase.

On all Boeing 787 international routes, Jetstar offers a two-class service: Economy Class and Business Class.

Economy Class: On board, Economy class passengers can purchase the  “comfort pack” which includes a toothbrush, toothpaste, earplugs, eye mask, inflatable travel pillow, wipe, socks, pen, hand cream and lip balm and all with good quality. Jetstar offers either pre-purchased meals on wheels or buy on board service with food and beverages. For entertainment, in-flight audio entertainment is available on the flight.

Business Class: Jetstar offers Business Class on its B787-8 aircraft. The Business Class cabin is fitted with 21 leather premium class seats in a 2-3-2 configuration, similar to Qantas domestic Business Class or Qantas international premium economy class. The service is inclusive of all meals and beverages, in-flight entertainment, and includes an increased baggage allowance of 30 kg. Business Max fares also include Qantas Club lounge access, where available and earn Qantas Frequent Flyer points.

Skytrax has certified Jetstar Airways as a 3-star low-cost airline, acknowledging the quality of its airport and onboard product and staff service; specifically, Skytrax notes that Jetstar's B787 Business Class offers a product and service close to a 4-star Premium Economy standard, while Economy comfort varies (28-30″ seat pitch) with good but chargeable IFE on B787 aircraft, satisfactory purchasable F&B in Economy, and staff service that is good but inconsistent, needing minor enhancements for a 4-star rating.
