Air Moldova was the flag carrier airline of Moldova, headquartered in the country's capital Chișinău. It was founded on January 12, 1993, by the decree of the President of the Republic of Moldova. Now it is one of the most widely recognized brands in Moldova.
It operates direct flights to destinations such as Bologna, Dublin, Frankfurt, Istanbul, Larnaca, Lisbon, London, Milan, Moscow, Paris, Rome, Venice, Verona, Tel-Aviv, St. Petersburg, Turin and seasonal flights – Antalya, Dalaman, Tivat, Heraklion and Sharm-el-Sheikh.
Air Moldova is currently carrying out a fleet renewal program, consisting of 2 Airbus A319, 1 Airbus A320 and 2 Airbus A321. There are two classes of service on Air Moldova flights: Business class and Economy class. Regardless of the chosen classes of service, all the passengers on the flights of Air Moldova shall benefit from high level services.
During the flights, the Economy class passengers are offered meals, wines and soft drinks, depending on the time of departure and duration of the flight.
For passengers who buy Business class tickets are reserved seats in a separate sector and the central seats are left empty, offering additional space that may be used when the passenger wants.
Air Moldova offers “New tastes at the altitude” service for Air Moldova passengers which is a diversity of recipes, combinations and flavors in menus that become available for pre-order up to 24 hours before the chosen flight. The menus, created by skilled chefs, passed our crew’s taste test and won over the gourmets. Breakfast, lunch or dinner, in variations, including vegan, are available for selection and payment upon your flight ticket purchase. The journey becomes even more relaxing when your taste buds are spoiled with healthy and tasty food whilst your diet and lifestyle are observed.
As a rule, a child of age from 2 years to 12 years (not completed) is entitled to a discount of 25% or 33% from an adult tariff (depending on the chosen destination). There can be exceptions in case of unaccompanied minors or in case of special/promotional fares. As a rule, one infant of age up to 2 years (not completed) is entitled to a discount of 90% from an adult tariff with no seat. If you fly together with more infants of age up to 2 years, then for the others you buy tickets with a discount of 25% or 30% from the adult tariff, depending on the chosen destination with a separate seat.
On July 13, 2004 Air Moldova became an active member of the International Association of Air Transport (IATA). The adhering conditions to IATA presume certain standards and requirements among which are to be mentioned: modernization of the fleet, assurance of flight security, personnel competence and development of a quality system.
In December 2008, Air Moldova was included in the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) register.
Obtaining the IOSA certificate means a quality status for an air company and its recognition by the world aviation community as a safe air carrier that complies with all international safety requirements. This has allowed Air Moldova to extend in a more dynamic way its cooperation with the worldwide known air companies and offer to its passengers flights to almost all cities of the world in which operate the partner companies on the basis of interline agreements. Since 2009 the company has interline agreements with about 80 international companies among which are mentioned such giants as Lufthansa, Delta Airlines, United Airlines, Aeroflot, Alitalia, El Al Israel Airlines, TAP Portugal etc.
Air Moldova undertook great efforts to extend its ticket sales network, both in the country and abroad. In this sense, Air Moldova became a member of BSP (Billing and Settlement Plan) consisting of 11 countries: Great Britain, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Romania, Turkey, France and Canada and since July 2009 the company has joined the ARC (Airline Reporting Corporation). This allows selling air tickets for Air Moldova flights on the territory of the countries that joined BSP as well as on the territory of USA, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands and Eastern Samoa due to its participation within the ARC system.
Air Moldova keeps the leading position in selling e-tickets. In May 2006, the company was among the first air companies from the CIS to implement e-ticketing and in June 2007 Air Moldova introduced online ticket sales on its web site airmoldova.md.
Air Moldova is Certified as a 3-Star Airline by Skytrax for the quality of its airport and onboard product and staff service. Product rating includes seats, amenities, food & beverages, cleanliness etc, and service rating is for both cabin staff and ground staff.
Skytrax guide writes: “Chisinau is a small, efficient airport, and Air Moldova has a fairly organised transfer process. The Business Class lounge is operated by the airport company and standards are fine. Business Class seats are the denser European format with the central seat blocked, Business Class meals are satisfactory with local wines. Economy Class catering is complimentary but the quality is inconsistent. Seat comfort is adequate for the short-haul network.”
