 Established in 1923, then known as Aero, Finnair is Finland’s flagship carrier. It is one of the oldest continuously operating airlines in the world. The airline flies to more than 100 destinations in 30 countries, including an increasing number of long-haul international flights to and from Asia, with its Helsinki hub ideally placed as a gateway between the Far East and Europe. Finnair flies to many destinations including Helsinki, Ivalo, Joensuu, Jyvaskyla, Kajanni, Kuusamo, Kem, Kokkla, Kittila, Kuopio, Mariehamm, Oulu, Rovaniemi, Turku, Tampere, Vaasa, United Arab Emirates, Dubai, Tel Aviv, Chicago, Miami, New York, Shanghai, Xi'an, Hong Kong, Delhi and many others. 


Finnair has a subsidiary airline, Nordic Regional Airlines (Norra), which operates regional flights on its behalf.


Finnair joined the OneWorld Alliance in 1999. In addition to the OneWorld alliance, Finnair has codeshare agreements with Aeroflot, Air China, Air France, Bangkok Airways, Belavia, Czech Airlines, Flybe, Jetstar Asia Airways, Nordic Regional Airlines, Icelandair, Rossiya, and TAP Portugal. Since its founding over 90 years ago, the company has grown from a small airline to a strong and respected member of the international airline industry.

The COVID-19 pandemic hits the whole globe and affects heavily the travel industry. Finnair runs less than 10 % of its normal operations for most of the year.

In 2018 it was the safest in the world according to Hamburg aviation security office JACDEC and an aviation magazine Aero International.

Skytrax, an international research company for the air transport industry, has renewed Finnair’s 4-star rating based on a product audit conducted as part of the World Airline Star Rating program. A comprehensive audit was carried out on 18 flights, during which the auditors carefully examined hundreds of elements of the service including the quality of its airport and onboard product and staff service. Product rating includes seats, amenities, food & beverages, IFE, cleanliness, etc and service rating is for both cabin staff and ground staff.


In 2021, Finnair holds APEX Official 5-Star Airline Ratings™ from APEX (Airline Passenger Experience Association): APEX a global non-profit and one of the world’s largest international airline associations, announced the recipients of the industry’s most anticipated honour.
