Vienna International Airport (IATA: VIE), is the main and largest international airport in Austria, located in Schwechat, 18 km southeast of its capital Vienna and 57 kilometres west of Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. It is the country's largest airport and serves as the hub for Austrian Airlines as well as a base for low-cost carriers Wizz Air and Ryanair.

Vienna International Airport can handle wide-body aircraft up to the Airbus A380. The airport features a dense network of European destinations as well as long-haul flights to Asia, North America and Africa. In 2020, the airport handled 7.8 million passengers, a 75.3% decrease compared to 2019 due to the collapse of air traffic during the COVID-19 pandemic. It's an important hub for flights in Central Europe, connecting the city with the rest of Europe, Asia, the United States and Canada.

With passenger and cargo traffic in a constant state of growth, the airport is expanding. There are four terminal buildings within walking distance of each other, with one of them currently being renovated.

The airport’s growth strategy is also based on the positive development of demand for flights to the Far East and Near East as well as the above-average growth of the low-cost carriers.

Vienna International Airport has 2 runways and plans are being developed for a third runway:

  • 11/29 - 3,500m long, 45m wide, Category IIIb (direction 29)
  • 16/34 - 3,600m long, 45m wide, Category IIIb (direction 16)
