Air traffic in Austria is determined on the one hand by its central location in Europe, and on the other hand by the small size of the country and the strong aviation competition from the surrounding countries. As a result, there are only a few large airports within Austria. Vienna is the largest of these and acts as a hub for flights to Eastern Europe and the Middle East. If you plan to visit the western regions of Austria, Tirol, Salzburg, Vorarlberg, Zurich, or Munich are your arrival airports. The airports in Salzburg, Graz, Innsbruck, Linz and Klagenfurt supplement the air traffic network but mainly serve domestic and European destinations.

Austrian Airlines, offers comfortable flights and excellent connectivity across Europe and beyond. Flight times are almost identical to those for flying into Vienna. ÖBB, the Austrian National Railways, offer direct train connections from Munich and Zurich to any major city in Austria.

Large airports such as those in Munich, Frankfurt and Zurich are located a relatively short distance from Austria and already serve similar market segments with larger capacities and a more extensive range of services. These airports therefore attract a significant proportion of international air traffic, which Austria has not been able to serve with its airports to date.
