Syunik Airport (IATA: YUK) is located 2.5 mi east of Kapan, the sixth largest city in Armenia and the largest city in the province of Syunik. It was opened in 1972, but the operation of the Airport was stopped in the 90s. As a result of prolonged inactivity, the Airport had lost all operational characteristics and was unfit for operation. "Syunik Airport" LLC was established in May 2017 and the airport's reconstruction started from that moment. On November 19, 2020, the airport received an aerodrome operation certificate from the Civil Aviation Committee.
Syunik Airport allows one to travel between Kapan and Yerevan in just 40 minutes in sharp contrast to the five-hour drive. It also serves other communities of southern Armenia. Flights from Yerevan to Kapan and back are operated every Monday and Friday.
