Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is located on Sea Island in Richmond, British Columbia, serving the city of Vancouver and the Lower Mainland region. The airport is 7.5 miles from downtown Vancouver and the second busiest airport in Canada by passenger traffic, behind Toronto Pearson International Airport in Ontario. As a trans-Pacific hub, the airport has more direct flights to China than any other airport in North America or Europe.
YVR is a hub for Air Canada and WestJet. YVR is one of eight Canadian airports with United States border preclearance facilities, which are situated in this section of the terminal. All international concourse gates can accept flights from international and U.S. origins: passengers are directed onto overhead walkways leading to the Canada Border Services Agency screening area. It is also one of the few major international airports with a terminal for scheduled float planes.
YVR is boldly pursuing a greener and more resilient future and has committed to eliminating emissions from operations, becoming net zero by 2030. It constantly develops innovative solutions to make traveller's airport experience better—from border kiosks that cut down on wait times to faster baggage systems and of course free in-terminal WiFi.
Vancouver International Airport has two terminals: the Main Terminal and the South Terminal.
YVR has repeatedly won international awards as the best airport. The Vancouver Airport Authority, a non-profit organization, operates it. The airport's operating model deserves to be protected. It has led to global recognition, with YVR being recognized as the best airport in North America for a record 12 consecutive years.
